Obituary for Rita May Phelps

Rita May Phelps, 87, of 70 Glenwood Avenue, Pittsfield, died Monday, January 12, 2015, at her home, where she had resided since 1949.
Born in Westfield on October 23, 1927, the daughter of Charles L. and Melvina DeMange
Mitchell, she was a graduate of Chester High School.
Mrs. Phelps was a homemaker.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and had been a communicant of the former St. Mary the Morning Star Church where she served as secretary of the Family Society
for fifteen years and on the Bazaar Committee for many years. She was a member of the Pittsfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, as well.
She and her late husband enjoyed their travels to all fifty states. She also enjoyed attending her children's, grandchildren's, and great grandchildren's games.
Her husband, Edgar W. Phelps, whom she married February 12, 1949, died April 10, 2013.
Mrs. Phelps is survived by five sons, Patrick C. Phelps and his wife, Diane, of Crystal River, Florida, Paul E. Phelps and his wife, Ginger, of Pittsfield, Brian M. Phelps and his wife,
Susan, of Lanesborough, Mark W. Phelps of Pittsfield, and Kevin J. Phelps of New York; two
daughters, Moira A. Phelps of Pittsfield, and Teresa E. Hallett and her husband, David, of
Pittsfield; as well as a brother, Paul Mitchell of Becket; and fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Rita May Phelps will be held Thursday, January 15, at 8:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Church celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral
Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
