Obituary for Richard E. Southworth

RICHARD E. SOUTHWORTH, age 83, of Lakewood Drive, Pittsfield, passed away Monday morning, June 7, 2010, at Rosewood Assisted Living.
He was born in Pittsfield on May 8, 1927, the son of Harry D. and Anna L. Neidel Southworth. He attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1945. He then served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Southworth was employed at the Berkshire Eagle and retired in 1987 from the Composing Room after forty years of service. He was an avid New York Yankees fan.
He leaves his loving wife: Sue Ryan Wilson Southworth, whom he married September 20, 1991; his brother: Dr. Robert Southworth and his wife Marion of Shrewsbury, MA; two daughters: Gayle Southworth, and Wendy Apple and her husband Tom of Pittsfield; two grandsons: Mark and Andrew of Pittsfield; four step-children: Karen Carlson of Tucson, AZ, Kenneth Wilson of Pittsfield, Steven Wilson of Brunswick, NY, and Patrick Wilson of Southwick, MA; and six step-grandchildren.
As per his request, there will be no calling hours and funeral services will be private. The DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield is in charge of arrangements. The family wishes to extend a special note of gratitude to the entire staff of Rosewood Assisted Living for their care and support of Richard and his family. Memorial donations in Richard's name may be made to HospiceCare of the Berkshires or to Elder Services of Berkshire County, both in care of the funeral home.
