Obituary for Richard L. Sedgwick Jr.

Mr. Richard Lyman Sedgwick, Jr. 79, of 181 West Housatonic Street, Dalton, Ma. died Tuesday morning at his home after a long illness. Born on March 29, 1927 in Dalton, Ma. a son of the late Richard L. Sedgwick Sr. and Agnes Gaudette Sedgwick. He attended schools in Dalton and was a 1945 graduate of the former Dalton High School. He served with the Massachusetts State Guard from 1944 until 1945. He was a 1947 graduate of the University of Massachusetts where he received a degree in horticulture. Mr. Sedgwick was employed for Crane & Company in Dalton for 35 years retiring as a quality control supervisor in 1989. After his retirement he went to work for Bass Ridge Country Club in Hinsdale, Ma. for 18 years where he held many positions. After he graduated from college in 1947 he worked for the former Keyes Florist in Pittsfield as a florist for 7 years. He was a past scout master for troop 222 of Dalton, Ma. He was a avid gardener and enjoyed playing golf and hunting. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Dalton. He leaves his wife the former Phyllis A. Bedard whom he married on August 18, 1956 at the former Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Richard L. Sedgwick III, of Peru, Ma. and Peter M. Sedgwick of North Dighton, Ma. A daughter, Donna Marie De Maestri of Pownal, Vermont. Three Bothers, Thomas, Robert and Merwin Sedgwick all of Dalton, Ma. And Six Grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Richard L. Sedgwick, Jr. who died Nov. 28, 2006 will be held Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Episcopal Church with Pastor Seth Gambino, officiating. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 E. Main St. Dalton, Ma. 01226 will be Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials in his memory may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders in care of the funeral home. Mr. Sedgwick was predeceased by his twin brother who died at birth.
