Obituary for Richard A. Sabato

Richard Albert Sabato, 81, of 84 Bryant St. Pittsfield, Ma. Died Friday January 17,2014 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born on March 10, 1932 in Pittsfield a son of the late Albert and Lucy Datre Sabato. He attended schools in Pittsfield and was a 1950 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He was a US Navy Korean War Veteran and had served aboard the USS Charles R. Ware.
Mr. Sabato was employed by the General Electric Company for 40 years retiring as a cost analyst. He also for ten years was the owner and operator of Sabato's Liquors & Brooklyn Deli on South Street in Pittsfield. He was a former communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and now a communicant of Saint Mark's Church. He was a excellent marksman and enjoyed Candle Pin Bowling, Crossword puzzles on the computer and reading. He was a member of the American Legion of Dalton, a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners Club and a member of The Tin Can Sailors.
He is survived by his wife the former Joanne Conant whom he married July 4, 1953 at the former Notre Dame Church. A daughter, Janet Marie Kent and her husband Robert of Pittsfield. Three sons, Michael A. Sabato and his wife Robin of Pittsfield, John W. Sabato and his wife Kelly Blanpied of Los Angeles, California and Peter R. Sabato and his wife Laura of Naperville, Illinois.
Eight Grandchildren, Vanessa Buffoni, Michael Sabato, Booker Harrap, Adam Kent, Austen Kent, Jillian Kent, Gabriella Sabato and Matteo Sabato. Six Great Grandchildren, Raymond, Haiden, Ariana, Aiyana, Landon and Riley. He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Nicole Sabato and Audra Lea Kent, and by five brothers, Frank, William, Edward, Charles and Arthur Sabato, and by a sister, Elmira Barzottini.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 8:45 a.m. from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Mark's Church, celebrated by the Rev. John A. Salatino, pastor. Entombment will follow at Saint Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or to St. Mark's Church both in care of the funeral home
