Obituary for Richard M. Potter

Mr. Richard M. Potter, 61, of 57 Churchill Crest in Pittsfield died Saturday at home. Born on January 7, 1946 in Pittsfield, MA he was a son of the late Harry J. and Yolanda Procopio Potter. A lifelong resident of Pittsfield, he was educated in Pittsfield Catholic Schools and was a 1963 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. In 1968 he received his bachelor of arts degree in English from Niagara University. He also attended St. Thomas Seminary in West Hartford, CT where he received his B.A. in theology in 1972. Mr. Potter was an educator in the Pittsfield Public School System for thirty-two years. He taught English and Latin for many years at Herberg Middle School and he was also a guidance counselor at one time. He retired in 2003 due to ill health. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Massachusetts and Pittsfield Teachers Association's . An avid reader, he enjoyed collecting books. He was also a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He leaves his brother, Thomas H. Potter of Lanesboro and a niece and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Richard M. Potter, 61, of Pittsfield who died February 17, 2007 will be held on Wednesday at 8:15 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Dery Funeral Home. Mr. Potter also leaves his sister-in-law, Patricia Potter, his niece Suzanne O'Connor and his two nephews, Tom and Jeffrey Potter. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
