Obituary for Richard F. Porter

Richard Francis Porter, 88, formerly of Pomeroy Manor, Dalton, and a former longtime resident of Windsor, died Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where he had
been a resident since October 2013. He had resided in Prospect, Maine, from 1995 to 2002.
Born in Pittsfield, on April 25, 1925, a son of Andrew and Gertrude Lussier Porter, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Porter was inducted into the United States Army on June 29, 1943,
served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre from December 1943 to December 1945, and was honorably dis-
charged with the rank of Technical Sergeant on January 15, 1946.
Mr. Porter was employed by Crane & Company as a papermaker.
He retired in 1987 with 27 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church.
He was also a member of the Benjamin F. Sullivan Post 155 of the American Legion.
He and his late wife enjoyed traveling.
Mr. Porter's wife, the former Mildred E. Collins, whom he married November 17, 1961, died
October 31, 2004.
Mr. Porter is survived by a son, Richard C. Porter, and his wife, Judith, of Rusk, Texas; two stepsons, Clifton P. Bean of Adams, and Warren R. Bean of Jamaica, Vermont; a stepdaughter, Nancy Smith of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two grandchildren, Scott and Amanda Porter, of Rusk, Texas; and two
great grandchildren, Amaya and Caden Porter.
He was pre-deceased by his brother, Marshall A. Porter, late of Dalton.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Richard Francis Porter will be held Saturday, January 18, at 9:30 a.m., at
DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, in Dalton, with Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor of St. Agnes Church, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 8:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Soldier On in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
