Richard F.Kaley, 86 of Dalton peacefully passed away, surrounded by family, April 20, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on September 5,1936, Richard was the son of the late Francis and Candace Curtis Kaley. He was a 1954 graduate of Dalton High School. Dick married Mary A. "Sis" Callahan May 18, 1963. A lifelong Daltonian, Dick served as the town Tax Collector and as the Water and Fire District Treasurer. Prior to working for the town, he managed the Dalton General Store ("Whitey's"). A communicant of St. Agnes Church, he was on the Town of Dalton Traffic Commission, and the treasurer of the Dalton High School Homecoming Committee. Dick loved coaching the Dalton youth "Gold" football team and youth baseball teams.
He was the past president of the Dalton Youth Football League, the Dalton Youth Baseball League, and the Dalton Benefit Association. He was a past member of the Wahconah High School Booster club. For his extensive volunteerism and contributions, he was awarded the Gib Kittredge Award and elected to the Dalton CRA Athletic Hall of Fame.
He was a United States Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 155. He loved to bowl and talk about various subjects with his children and grandchildren. Above all, he loved his family. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. He loved watching their sporting events, dance recitals and theater productions. Dick is survived by his wife Mary "Sis" Kaley, of Dalton and his children, Michael Kaley (wife Renee), Mark Kaley (wife Nichole), and Donna Kaley (Ted Boraski). He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Denis and Jack Cooney, Chelsea Basiliere, Brody Kaley, Tim Kaley and Sammie Kaley and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his daughter Denise Kaley, his granddaughter, baby Darby Grace Kaley and his brother William Kaley.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, Monday, April 24, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by Rev. Christopher Malatesta, Pastor. Calling hours will be held, Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 1 to 3 p.m. at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to the Denise Kaley Fund or to the CRA Hall of Fame and mailed to the funeral home.
