Obituary for Richard "Dick" L. Bauer
Richard L. "Dick" Bauer, 95 of Dalton, passed away February 4, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center, after a long life full of love, generosity, friendship, and music. He now sings with a more heavenly choir.
Born on April 6, 1927, he was the son of George V. and Evelyn Sherman Bauer. Richard was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1945 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He married the former Barbara J. VanBramer on October 13, 1962. She predeceased him on July 8, 2005, after 42 years of marriage. He later moved back to MA, where he met and loved--and was loved BY--his life partner, Linda Shaw, who his sons love and adore.
Mr. Bauer was an inventory control specialist for General Electric from 1945 to 1986, and also worked for Duke University in Durham, NC.
But the work that gave him the most fulfillment was that which he donated to his beloved church, Dalton United Methodist, of Dalton, MA. He was devoted to God, and his 15 years with his church were filled with the same love and devotion that he gave to everyone and everything in his life.
He is survived by his sons, Andrew S. Bauer and Richard L. Bauer, Jr., both of Durham, NC. He also leaves his life partner, Linda Shaw, of Becket, MA and many dear friends, especially those from his church, all of whom will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Dalton United Methodist Church in care of Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA 01226.
