Obituary for Richard D. Chapman

RICHARD D. 'DICK' CHAPMAN, 71, of 44 Pease Avenue, Dalton, died
Sunday, February 10, at his home.
Born in Pittsfield, October 12, 1936, a son of Raymond J. Chapman, Sr., and
Marion Felix Chapman, he was a 1955 graduate of Pittsfield High School where he was
co-captain of its Basketball Team.
He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960, aboard the Aircraft
Carrier USS Anteitam for three years.
Mr. Chapman was last employed by Crane & Co., Inc., as a sheeter helper in the
Byron Weston Mill where he worked ten years before retiring in 2005 due to ill health.
Prior to that, he had worked twenty-six years for General Electric Company as a
winder in the Power Transformer Department. During the same period in time, he
worked for twenty years as a roofer for Commercial Roofing.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 155 in Dalton. He was a New
York Yankees fan who also enjoyed golfing. He played, coached, and umpired soft-
ball and baseball games and attended his grandchildren's sporting events. His quick
wit, contagious laughter, and friendly word to everyone he met will be fondly
remembered by children and adults alike.
Mr. Chapman leaves his wife, the former Carol A. Aldrich, whom he married
December 28, 1957, and was the first couple married in the new St. Agnes Church in
Dalton. Besides his wife, Mr. Chapman is survived by two daughters, Kelley D. and
her husband, Jonathan Drosehn of Dalton, and Cheri L. and her husband, Jack Baroli of
Dalton; two brothers, William Chapman of Pittsfield, and Robert Chapman of Dalton;
six grandchildren, Kaila, Evan, Shelby, and Kristie Drosehn, and Anthony and Troy
Baroli; and a great granddaughter, Hannah Marie Harding. He was pre-deceased by a
brother, Raymond J. Chapman, Jr.


FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Richard Donald "Dick" Chapman, who died February 10,
will be Friday, February 15, at 11:00 a.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with
Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor of St. Agnes Church, officiating. Burial will
follow in Ashuelot Cemetery, after which family and friends are invited to a reception at
the Dalton American Legion. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.,
at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Chapman may
be made to Dalton Ambulance and Rescue or the Dalton Youth Center for its youth
programs, both in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
