Obituary for Richard F. Barber

Richard F. Barber, 68, of 1 Vin Hebert Boulevard in Pittsfield died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on May 2, 1942 in Pittsfield, a son of the late Francis and Martha Scanlon Barber. A lifelong Pittsfield resident, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1959. He went on to serve his country in both the United States Marine Corp and later with the United States Navy, patrol squadron eleven. He was employed as a fabricator at General Electric in Pittsfield for thirty-three years retiring in 1998. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Berkshire Hills Country Club. He also belonged to the American Legion. Dick enjoyed walking, bicycling and reading. His greatest joy was being with his family and friends and making them happy. He leaves his loving family, his wife, the former Louise I. Chabot of Lewiston, ME whom he married on June 6, 1964 in Auburn, ME. His daughters, Francine M. Barber of Pittsfield and Christine L. Kainamura and her husband Thomas, his loving son-in-law of Rocky Hill, CT. He also leaves his three grandsons; Ryan D. Mochon, Sean R. Mochon and Max Kainamura as well as his great grandson; Camryn Mochon. He also leaves two brothers; Thomas Barber and his wife Nancy of Plano, TX and David V. Barber and his wife Christine of Pittsfield. Six sisters; Nancy Heino of East Granby, CT, Patricia Langlois and her husband Neal, Susan Albertazzi, Catherine McHugh and her husband John and Martha Haughey and her husband Robert all of Pittsfield and Linda Barber of Worcester, MA. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Richard F. Barber who died February 12, 2011 will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Dr. Douglas Foss, pastor of Hope Church in Lenox. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Dick may be made to the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
