Obituary for Retired Pittsfield Police Captain Henry R. Dondi

Retired Pittsfield Police Captain, Henry R. Dondi, 67, of 6 Judith Drive in Dalton passed away
on Sunday, February 23, 2014. Born on February 23, 1947 in Pittsfield, he was a son of the late Henry J. and Anna Mae Cooper Dondi. He was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1965 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He went on to attend Berkshire Community College where he graduated in 1983 with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Captain Dondi began his law enforcement career in August of 1977 with the City of Pittsfield Police Department having served as Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Detective. He retired as a Captain in March of 2006 after twenty-eight years of service. He was a past member of the Massachusetts Police Association, a member of the Berkshire Museum Camera Club where he served as vice-president and president. He was also a member of the Wahconah Country Club and past board member. An avid artist and photographer, Henry always enjoyed carrying his camera to capture any family moment or beauty. He had an extensive picture library of over 10,000 photo's. A longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, he also enjoyed fishing and golf. He leaves his loving wife, the former Linda Juranics of Dalton whom he married on February 24, 1984. Three sons; Timothy E. Coe and his wife Sharon of Pittsfield, Dalton Chief of Police Jeffrey E. Coe and his wife Andrea of Pittsfield and Robert H. Dondi of Pittsfield. Four brothers; David Dondi and his wife Lise of Chicopee, MA, Kevin Dondi and his wife Helen of Pittsfield, John Dondi and his wife Diane of Astalulla, FL and Paul Dondi and his wife Carolyn of Colorado Springs, CO. Two sisters; Didi Kruger and her husband William of Clairmont, FL and Carol Nicholson and her husband Edward of Howey in the Hills, FL and a daughter-in-law; Lisa Cook Dondi of the State of Florida. He also leaves his eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son; the late Christopher J. Dondi who died on September 10, 2011.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services with police department honors for retired Pittsfield Police Captain Henry R. Dondi who died February 23, 2014 will be held Thursday at 10:15 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in PITTSFIELD followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Agnes Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Memorial donations in memory of Henry may be made to Berkshire County Kid's Place or to Friends of the Dalton Senior Center both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
