Obituary for Rene Oscar "Bob" Moser

Rene “Bob” Oscar Moser, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away peacefully in Dalton, MA. All who knew Rene will remember him as an intelligent and generous man who led a quietly constructive life centered on his family.

Rene was born in Pittsfield, MA to Swiss immigrant parents, Oscar Fridolin and Marie Louise (Geisser) Moser. In his younger years, he was a member of the track team at Pittsfield High School and served as Pittsfield Winter Carnival Chairman. Rene was active in Boy Scouts and was Quartermaster at Camp Eagle on October Mountain. He served as a corporal in the Korean War with the United States Army in the European Communications Zone, Orleans, France, keeping typewriters functioning their best as office machine repairman. While in Europe, Rene enjoyed riding his motorcycle to visit his extended family in nearby Switzerland. Upon returning, he courted his sister’s best friend, Annette Monks, the love of his life. Rene and Annette married in 1956 and spent nearly every day together for 65 years. They had a great partnership.

Rene attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was a member of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UMass Amherst and worked as engineer for General Electric, Sprague, and Hughes Danbury Optical Systems. He enjoyed mentoring young engineers and, at the end of his career, was admired as the “go-to” person for solving tough problems.

A summer resident of Hinsdale, he served as Chairman, Town of Hinsdale Conservation Commission. Rene and Annette spent winters at their Florida Gulf Coast home, where Rene championed water quality initiatives. He enjoyed computers, photography, boating, puttering at their lake cottage in the Berkshires, and just fixing things. He was immensely supportive of his wife’s artistic talents and proud of the successes of his grandchildren.

Rene may have left our physical world but will never leave our hearts. He is survived by his very loving family: his wife, Annette (Monks) Moser of Hinsdale, MA; four sons: Stephen (Kathie) Moser, David Peter Moser, Robert Moser, and Paul (Chris) Moser; two sisters: Christina (Henry) Moser Berry and Mary Lou (Gerry) Grover; eight grandchildren: Jillian (Roderick Link) Moser, Gregory (Jessica Carpenter) Moser, and Chelsea Moser, Jason and Matthew Gavris, Eric (Chela) Moser, Heather (Michael) Lee, and Zachary Moser; three great-granddaughters and a caring, extended family.

FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no memorial services at this time. A celebration of life will be held when safe health conditions again prevail.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hinsdale Volunteer Fireman's Association or a favorite charity in Rene’s name, care of Dery-Foley Funeral Home 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA 01226.
