Obituary for Rene A. Elger

RENE' A. ELGER, 86, formerly of Rose Manor, Pittsfield, and a life-long resident of
Pittsfield, died Friday, March 27, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield, January 3, 1923, a the son of Bernard and Eugenie Chaiffre
Elger, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High
School. Mr. Elger was employed by General Electric Company as a Production Clerk in
the Power Transformer Department. He retired on February 1, 1983, with forty-two
years service.
He was an honorary lifetime member of Local 254 IUE-ALF-CIO and a member of the GE Pensioners and Quarter Century Clubs.
Mr. Elger was one of the first members of the Berkshire Pioneers Square Dance
Club. He and his late wife had also square-danced in the New England Pavilion at the 1960 World's Fair.
He was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross.He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and a New York Giants fan. He also enjoyed dining out at the Highland Restaurant in Pittsfield.
His beloved wife, the former Mariellen "Patty" Carrington, whom he married
August 19, 1950, died March 2, 2002.
Mr. Elger is survived by two sons, Robert A. Elger of Palm Coast, Florida, and
David F. Elger, of Palm Coast Florida; two daughters, Leslie "Penny" Gallagher and her
husband, Michael, of Pittsfield; and Mariellen "Susan" Force and her husband, Ronald, of Schenectady, New York; three grandchildren, Timothy P. Gallagher, Patrick M. Gallaher and
and Lawrence J. Lowe, II., and his wife, Jodi; and two great grandchildren, Braeden B.
Lowe and Teagan C. Lowe.
Mr. Elger was pre-deceased by a son, Bruce Jeffries, who died in 1988, and a
daughter, Deborah Ann Elger who died in 1951, as well as by a brother, Edmund "Joe"
Elger, and two sisters, Bertha Elger and Bernadette Elger Frey.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service for RENE' ALBERT ELGER, who died Friday, March 27,
will be Thursday, April 2, at 11:00 a.m., at Southview Cemetery in North Adams conducted by the Rev. Peter Elvin, rector at St. John Episcopal Church in Williamastown. Those attending are invited to meet by the Cemetery office at 10:45 a.m.. There are no calling
hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Elger may be made to
Elder Services of the Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54
Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
