Obituary for Raymond O. Oakes

Raymond O. Oakes, 77, of 119 South Road in Peru passed away on Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on March 13, 1939 in Peru, he was a son of the late Harry and Carmella Frusciente Oakes. A longtime resident of Peru, he also resided in Springfield for many years. He was educated in Hinsdale and Pittsfield schools and was a 1957 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also served in the National Guard. Mr. Oakes was employed for many years as a front end mechanic at Bob Wiener Automotive in Springfield and as a truck driver and mechanic for the Town of Peru Highway Department. He enjoyed playing the guitar and played with Lu Lu and the Shoemakers. He also enjoyed fishing, repairing things and working on trucks and cars. He leaves his daughter; Denise Horton of Salem, NH and a son; Ronald Oakes of Cookeville, TN. Four brothers; Donald Oakes of Peru, Nelson Oakes of Chester, Louis Oakes of Pittsfield and Harry Oakes of SanDiego, CA. A sister; Caroline Oakes of Huntington Beach, CA and five grandchildren; Tim Horton, John Horton, Joelle Oakes, Josh Oakes and Jordan Oakes. He also leaves several great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son; David Oakes.

FUNERAL NOTICE – At Ray's request there are no services or calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ray's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield which is handling arrangements.
