Obituary for Raymond V. Munger

Raymond Vincent Munger “Ray”, 87, son of John and Hazel Munger, passed away July 25, 2022 at home with his wife Lois by his side.

Pooch as he was known to many, grew up in Pittsfield. Some of his fondest memories were playing baseball with his brothers in Clapp Park and as he would tell you – no one could play 3rd base better.

He attended Pittsfield High School and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country as Gunner's Mate Third Class aboard the destroyer USS Perry and was honorably discharged on December 13, 1955.

In 1961 Ray went on to join the Pittsfield Fire Department and not only bravely served the community but earned his degree in Fire Science during his 25 year career.

He was also a talented painter, draftsman, and musician. He loved the Red Sox and Patriots and was a member of the Senior Bowling League at Kens Bowl for many years.

Ray met the love of his life, the former Lois A. Field in 1958 and they would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary later this year. He is also survived by his children: Carol Sanders and husband Charles, Robert Munger, Ronald Munger and wife Ali, and Deborah Miron and husband Gabe, as well as seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his seven siblings: Mary Luke; Ruth Durant; Dorothy “Pinkie” Panzeri; John “Jack” Munger; Roswell Munger; Donald Munger and Clifford “Chip” Munger.

Per his wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to in his name to Soldier On at donate.wesoldieron.org
