Obituary for Phyllis E.M. King

Phyllis E. M. King Western Mass Electric Secretary 1913 - 2008 Pittsfield Phyllis E. M. King, 94, formerly of 153 South St., died Friday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility where she had resided since November 2006. Born July 26, 1913 in Pittsfield, daughter of George "Cap" and Mabel Fenner King, late of England, she was a 1931 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Miss King went to work as a secretary for the then Pittsfield Electric Company in 1931 and later Western Massachusetts Electric Company, retiring in 1975 after 44 years of service. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and chairperson of the St. Barbara's Chapter and the Women's Club of Pittsfield, where she served on the board for many years. She also belonged to the Electric Club of Western Mass and was also a member of the 25-Year Club at Western Mass Electric. She was a charter member and former president of the Pittsfield Chapter of the National Secretaries Association International. She served as a past secretary of the Pittsfield Business and Professional Women's Club. Miss King also served for many years as a member and secretary of the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum and AARP. She enjoyed traveling and visiting Cape Cod. She leaves her cousins, Hilda Marcy of Dennis, and Clive and Sylvia Butcher of England; her second cousin, Marion Kuntz of Cape Cod, and her dear friends; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kilmer of Pittsfield and Joyce Machino and her family, also of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be held for Miss King on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Pittsfield Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Hannah Anderson, rector at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. There are no calling hours. Those attending the graveside service may meet inside the Pittsfield Cemetery gate at 1:45. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Miss King may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is in charge of arrangements.
