Obituary for Phyllis M. Balzekas

Phyllis M. Balzekas, 80, of Peru, MA died Saturday, May 24, 2014 peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 28, 1934 in Somerville, MA, the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Dorothy E. Aiken Sampson. She was educated in Westfield schools and had attended Westfield State.
Pre-deceased by her second husband: Ralph J. Balzekas Phyllis was primarily a homemaker, and had owned and operated Carl's Bait and Tackle Shop in Hinsdale with her first husband Carl E. Hallock from 1965 to 1985. She was also a member of the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale.
Phyllis is survived by her five sons: Charles Hallock of Pittsfield, John and his wife Valerie Hallock of Peru, with whom she lived, James Hallock of California, Mark Hallock and his wife KathyRagusa-Hallock of West Stockbridge, MA, and Roger Hallock of Odessa, FL; her two daughters: Sherry and her husband Steve Midoneck of Pearland, TX, and Sally and her husband Mark Rivers of Odessa, FL; 10 grandchildren;11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ruth Furlani of Westfield, MA, and Virginia Stevens of Cohassett, MA; two brothers: Robert Sampson of Lanesborough, MA, and James Sampson of Williamstown, MA. She was pre-deceased by her brothers: Walter Sampson and John Sampson.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The family will receive relatives and friends THURSDAY from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield the funeral home. A memorial service will be at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at a later date.
