Obituary for Philomena Rose Martin (Mele)
Philomena Rose Mele Martin, 98, formerly of Pittsfield and Arizona, passed away at Lee Health Care on March 11, 2021.
Born in Pittsfield on November 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Amelia Timpano Mele.
She was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and was married to the late Samuel A. Martin.
Mrs. Martin worked for Berkshire Nursing Home for 20 years for John A. Barry. She also at one time was employed by Furlong’s Nursing Home and Gilbert Ortega Galleries in sales of jewelry in Arizona for 13 years.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and also a member of the Red Hat Ladies. Philomena loved to play cards, bingo and socialize with her friends. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her nieces and nephews, and long-time friend and caregiver, Geralyn M. Jones.
She was predeceased by her twin brother David Mele and brothers Patrick Mele and Nicholas Mele and a sister Esther O’Neil.
Funeral Notice: Graveside services will be held Friday, March 26, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
