Obituary for Peter A. Meunier

Peter Andrew Meunier, 68, died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on February 13, 2023. Born at St. Luke’s hospital in Pittsfield on March 29,1954, Pete was the son of Roland G. and Claire C. Bradley Meunier.

He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic Central High School in 1972 where he was captain of the swim team.

He was a longtime employee of E.D. Jones, later known as Beloit Jones, in Dalton where he was active in organized labor leadership. Later, and until his retirement, he was employed at L. P. Adams in Dalton as a decking designer where he always felt part of a work family.

He married Betsy Holmes in 1979. They would later have two sons; Joshua and Timothy. Family was always important to Pete. He enjoyed hosting picnics and fires for family and friends. Some gatherings were attended by more than one hundred guests including his parents 50th anniversary.

Pete was a lifelong fisherman, hunter as well as a carpenter who made doghouses and picnic tables. He even dabbled in taxidermy in his youth.

He was loved by his numerous nieces and nephews who were somehow all his favorites. Always generous, giving and humble will be the way many remember Pete.

In addition to his late parents, he was predeceased by his son Tim, brothers Paul and George and sisters Claire (Walt), Ann (Americo, “the Count”) and Ellen. He leaves behind his beloved wife, dedicated caretaker and advocate Betsy and his son, who he calls his “most favorite person on this earth”, Josh. His brothers James Meunier of Mechanicville VA., John K. Meunier of Liverpool NY., Mark Meunier (Christine) of Dalton.
He leaves his sisters Margaret McMahon (Martyn) of Richmond, Mary Lou Burdick (Barry) of Cheshire and Catherine Grady (Michael Cooney) of Dalton and sister-in-law MaryEllen Meunier as well as his lifelong, and close friend Rudy Pfeiler, who is considered family by the Meuniers. His sister-in-law Sue Ellen Holmes, brother-in-law Richard, and sister-in-law Rosemary Draper (John). Pete had many friends including Mike Auger, John and Karen Grady and Artie Cole.

The family expresses their gratitude to all of the dedicated medical professionals who provided care and comfort to Pete.

A private celebration of life and service will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Meunier may be made to the Dalton Fire Department where Pete served for several years or to the Hinsdale Fire Department, both in care of Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA 01226
