Obituary for Paul Reede Van Loon

Paul Reede Van Loon, 88, of Pittsfield, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Hillcrest Commons after a brief stay. Born on March 17, 1928 in Pittsfield, he was the son of the late George R. and Blanche DeLong Van Loon.
A lifelong Pittsfield resident, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Army as a Tec 5 with the 7th Signal Company in Seoul Korea during World War II.
For forty-two years Paul was a conductor on the Railroad. He worked for the Boston and Albany, New York Central, Penn Central, and ConRail. He retired on July 2, 1989.
Paul was a member of First Baptist Church and was a member of the United Transportation Union. He enjoyed stamp collecting, bowling, golfing, fishing and he was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, the former Louise F. Latimer, whom he married in St. Stephen's Church on July 31, 1948l; his daughters, Judith Ann Buker and her husband Richard of Lee, and Kathleen Louise Green and her husband John of New Marlborough; his three grandchildren, Richard A. Buker II and his wife Sarah of Plymouth, Kellie Lynn Buker of Lee, and Amy K. Green of Los Angeles, CA; one great-grandchild, Genevieve Lynn Buker; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, George Van Loon, and a sister, Barbara McCarthy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kevin, Gina and Jackie Bailot and Paul's neighborhood friends, John Orsi and Alex Bertelli who looked out for him over the years.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Paul Reede Van Loon of Pittsfield, who passed away September 21, 2016, will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in memory of Paul may be made to Perkins School for the Blind in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
