Obituary for Patricia A. Wood

Patricia A. Wood, 55, of 31 Stanley Avenue, Pittsfield, died Monday, February 17, 2014,
at Berkshire Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family members.
Born in Pittsfield on September 30, 1958, a daughter of Ruth M. Daniels Wood and the
late Robert A. Wood, she was educated in Pittsfield schools, was a 1976 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1978 graduate of Berkshire Community College. Continuing her education, she was a 1983 graduate of Berkshire Christian College.
Miss Wood spent her entire working career in the helping professions. She had been
the Director of Health and Safety for the Berkshire County Chapter of the American Red Cross in Pittsfield and in Connecticut. She also served as Case Manager for its HIV Program which is now
a program of Berkshire Medical Center. She retired earlier this year due to ill health.
Previous to her work with the Red Cross, Miss Wood had been employed by The Brien Center where she was a member of the Crisis Team for six years; for six years prior to that, she was employed with Berkshire Mental Health Center's Transitions Program. At one time, she worked for the American Pre-School Center.
Miss Wood was a long-time member of the Berkshire Community Church in Richmond
where she taught Sunday School and directed the Youth Program, and sang in the choir.
She enjoyed playing Yahtzee.
While in her late 30s, Miss Wood adopted two children, a daughter, Marissa N. Wood
of Pittsfield, and a son, Andrew D. Wood, of Pittsfield. She was very concentrated on her children and their education.
Besides her children and her mother, Miss Wood is also survived by three sisters,
Susan L. Barnes of Pittsfield, Debra A. Wood of Pittsfield, and Donna Maree of Philadelphia,
Penn.; two brothers, Robert A. Wood and his wife, Rita, of Windsor, and Andrew J. Wood, of
Pittsfield; many nieces and nephews; as well as her life-long friends, Roberta A. Heath and
Janet D'Archangelo, both of Richmond; and many friends and extended family at Berkshire
Community Church.
She was pre-deceased by a brother, Kenneth A. Wood, who died in 1975.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
A Celebration of the Life of Patricia A. Wood will take place on Saturday, February 22,
at 10:00 a.m., at Berkshire Community Church on Cemetery Road (off Barker Road/Swamp Road) in Richmond, with Rev. Roberta A. Heath, Retired Pastor of the Church, officiating. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Patricia A. Wood Family Trust for her children's education in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
