Obituary for Patricia E. Kanable

PATRICIA E. "Patti" KANABLE, 63, of 655 Middlefield Road, Hinsdale, a life-long resident of Hinsdale, died Monday, January 26, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield, January 14, 1946, a daughter of the late Richard and Ellen
Andersen Allen, she was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1963 graduate of
Wahconah Regional High School. She continued her education at McCann Technical
Vocational School, graduating from the Licensed Practical Nursing program. She then went on to receive her degree from the Registered Nursing Program at Berkshire Community College
A passion for working with the elderly, "Patti" enjoyed a 49-year career
in nursing, more than twenty of which were as a Registered Nurse. She began her
career at the former Mapleview Nursing Home in the Town of Washington where she
was employed for 30 years. She then went to work for Springside of Pittsfield where she
was the Assistant Director of Nursing from 1988 to 1992. From 1993 to 1998, she served
as the Director of Nursing at the former Center for Optimum Care. At the time of her
death, Mrs. Kanable was the Director of Nursing at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center
where she was employed for the past five years.
She was a member of the Massachusetts Nurses' Association. Her hobby was rabbit collectibles. She also enjoyed gardening, especially tending
to her rose bushes, cooking, and riding motorcycles. Mrs. Kanable leaves her life partner, Russ Jansen of Hinsdale; two daughters,
Nicole R. Kanable of Hinsdale, Wendy M. Kanable of Raleigh, North Carolina; two
sisters, Karen Mack of Leesburg, Florida and Christine Allen of Gloucester; a step-
daughter, Jennifer Klase of Lake Isabelle, California, a stepson, Jay Jansen of Inyokern,
California; five grandchildren, Owen Jansen Crawford, Brodie Crawford, Sierra Klase,
Mikayla Jansen, and Austin Jansen, and her nieces. She was pre-deceased by two
grandchildren, Taylor Jansen and Avery Crawford.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for PATRICIA E. KANABLE, who died Monday, January
26, will be Sunday, February 1, at 1:00 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of
Hinsdale, with Rev. Carolyn G. Peck, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Spring
in Maple Street Cemetery in Hinsdale. Calling hours will be held Saturday, from 4:00 to
8:00 p.m., at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of "Patti" may be made to Berkshire Humane Society or to Berkshire Medical Center Cancer Research in care the Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
