Obituary for Patricia Walsh (Smicherko )

Patricia Smicherko Walsh, 74, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2021 at Berkshire Medical Center.

She was born in Pittsfield on November 15, 1946 to the late Stanley and Anna Nykorchuk Smicherko. She graduated in 1964 from St. Joseph High School.

She worked at the former Sheaffer Eaton Texton in Human Resources and then for the City of Pittsfield in the Engineering Department. She previously owned a family bridal shop and tuxedo business and worked as a para-professional secretary within the school department.

Patti was a Justice of Peace and Notary Public for the town of Richmond, MA.

She enjoyed crafts, painting, knitting, gardening and tag sales with her friends and family. Listening to Polish music and going to picnics and collecting Ukrainian Eggs with her late cousin and best friend, John “Johnny” Nykorchuk.

She was a past communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Pittsfield. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mark’s Catholic Church and currently belonged to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children, daughter, Carolyn Walsh Alderman of Alexandria, VA, twins, daughter Danielle Walsh Capitanio (Richard, her special, like a son) of Pittsfield, and son Daniel Walsh of St. Augustine, FL. She leaves seven grandchildren who called her “BaBa”, which was her greatest joy. Vincent “Barilseski” Barile, Brittany Alderman, Victoria Ann Argiro, Ashley Alderman, Gavin Stanley Walsh, Nicole Alderman and Kaelynn Walsh. Two sisters, Christine Smicherko Bianco of Florida, Stella Smicherko Bancroft of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews and close cousins.

Her love was unconditional for everyone she knew. Patti’s greatest joy in her life was her family and long- time childhood friend, Susan Wicker Guerrero.

“My deepest appreciation is extended to my daughter, Danielle and her husband Rich, who were always there for me daily taking care of me, always giving me comfort and peace. They were truly my heros and saviors through every challenge and illness I faced throughout the last several years. “Thank You” I Love you both and could of never survived this long without you…. “just know now I am at peace and free of pain” Love, Mom.

Per Patti’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A mass will be celebrated at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
