God called Pam Walters to heaven on February 8 after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family who will miss her dearly.
Pam, a native of Lenox and daughter of George and Virginia Ryer, moved to Alabama during her high school years. While attending the University of Montevallo/Auburn University, she received her bachelor's degree in secondary education and a master's degree in math. During college, she met David Walters, a graduate of Auburn University, and the two were wed in 1975. She was predeceased by her husband. She loved teaching math at Kingwood Christian School (Alabama) where the Pam Walters Math Award was named in her honor. She was also invited to be a commencement speaker at Kingwood.
She moved back home to the Berkshires in 2001 where she taught math at Miss Hall's School for 10 years. She served as chair of the math department and was a learning specialist in the Leonhardt Academic Skills Center. She was an active member of the Berkshire First Church of the Nazarene in Dalton.
Pam loved the hobby of Geocaching (GeoPi) and has found more than 5,700 caches. She also enjoyed running and completed the San Diego Rock 'n Roll Marathon in 2001. She loved the outdoors, hiking and living in the Berkshires. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross and at Hancock Shaker Village.
Pam leaves behind a daughter Jessica Henson of Huntsville, AL; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Jess Walters of Natick; grandson Bryce Henson of Huntsville; brother and sister-in-law Rick and Mary Ryer of Pittsfield; mother-in-law Louise Walters of Greenville, AL; 2 nieces and a nephew; and many friends who will miss her.
FUNERAL NOTICER: Funeral services for Pamela R. Walters who died February 8, 2015 will be held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Bryan Lamberton, pastor of Berkshire First Church of the Nazarene in Dalton. Calling hours will be held Thursday prior to the service from 4 to 6 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, scholarship gifts in Pam's memory can be made to Miss Halls School, 492 Holmes Rd, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
