Mr. Orlando Joseph Domenichini, age 102 of Pittsfield passed away on March 3rd at home with his two loving daughters by his side.
He was born on April 25, 1919 in Athol, MA, son of Joseph and Maria Bedini Domenichini. His early years were spent on the family’s farm in Sherman (Readsboro) Vermont. He attended school there and then went to high school in Whitingham, Vermont. Following that, he was employed for 12 years at the Deerfield Glassine paper mill in Monroe Bridge.
He married Elsie Giordano of Pittsfield on January 16, 1943. The family moved to Pittsfield in 1951 where Orlando was employed at Moldmaster Engineering as foreman. He retired from there in 1986 after 38 years of service.
Orlando was a true lover of nature. He especially enjoyed fishing and spent many hours on the lakes and streams throughout the Berkshires and Vermont. He always loved sharing these times with his children and grandchildren and always managed to catch the limit...wink, wink!
His other passion was hunting for either rabbits, pheasants or squirrels but the most fun for him was tracking white tailed deer. He enjoyed teaching his younger friends the rules and techniques of deer hunting. Because Orlando had a “built-in” compass, they never had to worry about getting lost.
Orlando was a man of many talents. He was the family’s carpenter, plumber, electrician, auto mechanic, furniture maker, and gardener. There was no project that he could not master. Throughout all of these activities, he maintained a keen sense of humor most often with just a few words.
He was always ready to go on a new adventure. He loved his trips to the family camp in Vermont as well as his trips to Maine, Florida, France and Italy. He even travelled to Maui at the age of 92 to visit his grandson. He was a lifelong Yankee fan and was privileged to see both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig play.
He is survived by his two daughters, Diana Domenichini of Pittsfield and Andrea Justice of Northbridge, MA. In addition, he is survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He had an immense influence on all of them and they are so grateful for the numerous precious memories that he created.
He also leaves his older brother, Carlo Domenichini of North Adams and his sister, Alice Modena of Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Elsie who died on December 25, 2020. They had been married for 78 years and she was the love of his life.
He was also predeceased by his beloved daughter Paula Marie Domenichini on March 25, 1965 and his brother Clifford Domenichini.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name at MassOutdoorHeritageFoundation.org/donate.
