Obituary for Omy J. "Sonny" Barnaby

Omy "Sonny" J. Barnaby, 87, of 64 Dartmouth Street in Pittsfield died Saturday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 13, 1928 in the Beaver section of North Adams, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie Norman Barnaby. He was educated in Pittsfield schools and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war he went to work as a fabricator in the Copper Shop at General Electric where he worked for over fifty years.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the GE Pensioners Club. A home handyman, he enjoyed fixing things and going fishing. He leaves his wife; Maryann Civello Barnaby of Pittsfield whom he married in 1948. Five sons; Alan O. Barnaby and Thomas J. Barnaby of Pittsfield, Timothy P. Barnaby of Lanesboro, Gary S. Barnaby of Pittsfield and Bruce M. Barnaby of Pittsfield. A daughter; Jane Unterberger of Pittsfield and two brothers; James Barnaby and Robert Barnaby of South Carolina. He also leaves his sister; Norma Lennon of Hinsdale, and his sisters; Shirley and Joan of South Carolina.
Eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother; the late Norman Barnaby.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Omy "Sonny" J. Barnaby of Pittsfield who died February 13, 2016 will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of "Sonny" may be made to Soldier On in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201 which is handling arrangements.
