Obituary for Nina Kazura

Nina Kazura, 85, of 33 Partridge Road, Pittsfield, died Monday, October 22, at
Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided since February.
Born in Richmond on December 1, 1926, a daughter of Stephen and Pauline
Brushkevich Homich, she grew up in Pittsfield and was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
While in high school, she had enjoyed playing many sports, including basketball, softball, volleyball, and golf. For many years beyond high school, she continued to play basketball with the Berkshire Belles and the Professional Drug team. They won many
local titles and competed in national tournaments in St. Joseph, Missouri, and Dallas
Texas. Mrs. Kazura had worked for A.H. Rice and General Electric Company, and
had been a sales clerk at England Brothers and Steiger's department stores.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.
Her husband, Alexander J. Kazura, Sr., whom she married October 29, 1955, in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, died January 1, 1976.
Mrs. Kazura is survived by four children, Alessandra N. Kazura and her husband,
Gary D. Davis, of Portland, Maine, Alexander J. Kazura, Jr. of Pittsfield, Al A. Kazura and his wife, Kathleen Havanek Kazura of Pittsfield, and Tracey A. Kazura of Warwick, Rhode Island; a sister, O. Jeane Homich of Woodbury, Connecticut, and many, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by seven brothers, Peter Homich, Charles Homich, Michael
Homich, Stephen Homich, Alexander Homich, John Homich, and Joseph Homich, and
two sisters, Mary Quirk and Sophia Collins.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Nina Kazura will be held Monday, October 29, at 10:00 a.m.
at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church (1304 North Street, Pittsfield) with Rev. Fr. Barnabas
Fravel officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be
Sunday, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in memory of Mrs. Kazura may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
