Obituary for Nicholas J. Zarvis

NICHOLAS J. ZARVIS, 84, of 10 Union Court, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, March 16, at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Pittsfield on September 22, 1926, a son of Thomas and Sarah Walker
Zarvis, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1945 graduate of Pittsfield High
School and had also attended Boston University.
He served with the United States Navy during World War II.
Mr. Zarvis was employed as a salesman for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for thirty years. From 1982 to 1989, he was employed by Berkshire Farm for Boys, and had also worked as a school bus driver for the Pittsfield Public Schools. He retired in 1991.
Mr. Zarvis was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
He was avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching boxing matches. He also enjoyed playing cards and traveling.
Mr. Zarvis leaves his wife, the former Patricia Chilos, whom he married July 18,
1953, in Rutland, Vermont.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Thomas C. Zarvis and his wife, Nancy, of East Dorset, Vermont, and Christopher J. Zarvis of Pittsfield; a brother, George
Zarvis of Alexandra, Virginia; a sister, Marie Zarvis of Albany, New York; two grand-
children, Nicholas C. Zarvis and Margaret S. Zarvis; and a great granddaughter, Hera M.
Tubbs. He was pre-deceased by a brother, John Zarvis.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for NICHOLAS J. ZARVIS will be Monday, March 21, at 7:00
p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. James K. Joyce, Pastor of Sacred Heart
Church, officiating. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in
Agawam. Calling hours will precede the service from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Zarvis may be made to the Alzheimer's
Association in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
