Obituary for Nancy Ann Albano Leone

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Nancy Ann Albano Leone, who left us on April 19 at 86 years old, with family by her side. Daughter of James and Margaret Candilore Albano. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many.

Born in Pittsfield on May 17, 1936, she was one of eleven children and was pre-deceased by her brothers, Gabriel who died as an infant from influenza, Angelo “Tote” Albano, Ralph “Ray” Albano, and Gabriel “Bill” Albano, as well as her sisters, Philomena “Mimi” Davis, Brunina “Bernie” Williams, Josephine “Peppy” Jakacky, Ann Pivero, and Fran Devanny.

Nancy graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1953. She married David A. Leone in 1960 and together they raised three daughters. Although they divorced later in life, they remained close friends who shared in all holidays with each other’s families.

Nancy worked for many years at Scheaffer Eaton, where she made many friends as well as Berkshire Eye Center, where she eventually retired.

Nancy was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished the time she spent with her family. She had a passion for cooking and baking and was well known for hosting Christmas Eve for many years. (can’t you just smell the calamari and smelts?) Her love for Christmas was evident through her extensive decoration of not one, but two Christmas trees most years, and her home was always a wonderland of holiday cheer. If she charged admission, many would come just to see her home’s magnificence.

Her love of arts and crafts kept her busy throughout the years. She enjoyed making many different things and her creations will be treasured by her family and friends. Her passion for gardening was quite evident as many people walking by would stop and admire them, especially her cactus garden. Her love for the Red Sox was well-known, but her favorite Italian tenor group, IL Volo, held a special place in her heart. Making it to their concert last September was a special treat, she wasn’t sure she would be able to do. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Pittsfield.

Nancy will be remembered for her warm heart and kind spirit. She touched the lives of many people, and her presence will be deeply missed.

Nancy leaves her three daughters, Lisa M. Wendling (Mike), Lori M. Leone, and Gina M. Isenhart (Jerry); her grandchildren, Maggie, Tommy, Jordan, Troy, Drew, Tiana, Violet and Vincent; 2 great grandchildren, Luna and Dolce, as well as her brother, Donald “Al” Albano, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

We want to thank Heather, our mother’s caregiver from Molari, who kept her company when we could not, and made her life easier over the past year. Also, a special thank you to the staff at Craneville Place of Dalton for making her stay there as pleasant as possible.
