Obituary for Minnie A. Harris

MINNIE ADELL HARRIS, 87, formerly of 44 Orlando Avenue, Pittsfield, a resident of Pittsfield since 1945, died Friday afternoon at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility where she had resided since November 2004.
Born in Stanford, Vermont, May 5, 1920, the daughter of Fordyce and Violet
Thompson Harris, she attended schools in Pittsfield and in Lenox.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Harris had been employed by General Electric
Company for four or five years during World War II. Before going to G.E., she had
worked at Rice Silk Mill.
She was a member of Pilgrim Memorial Church. She enjoyed sewing and baking.
Her husband, Lester J. Harris, whom she married May 17, 1941, in Pittsfield, died
July 29, 1990. Mrs. Harris is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth J. Hathaway of Hinsdale and
Carolyn A. Silvagni of Pittsfield; five grandchildren and one great grandson.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service for MINNIE ADELL HARRIS, who died Friday, November
9, will be Saturday, November 17, at 11:00 a.m., at Pittsfield Cemetery with Rev. William D. Furey, Pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel, officiating. Those attending are invited to meet inside the Cemetery gate at 10:45. There are no calling hours. In lieu of
flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Harris may be made to the American Cancer
Society or to the American Diabetic Association both in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
Mrs. Harris, who enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren, also leaves her son-in-law, Gene J. Silvagni; five grandchildren, Nancy L. Hathaway, Richard E. Silvagni, Michael J. Silvagni and his wife, Robin, Christopher A. Silvagni, and Kevin
A. Hathaway and his wife, Nicole; a great grandson, Dylan Silvagni; and several nieces
and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Fordyce Harris and Francis Harris, and
five sisters, Florence Malloy, Lillian Tilly, Beatrice Beaupre, Helen Leach, and Violet
Mathes.
