Obituary for Mildred M. Shook

MILDRED MARY SHOOK, 97, of 47 Howe Road, Pittsfield, died Saturday,
March 7, at Berkshire Medical Center from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident
earlier in the week.
Born in Pittsfield, January 13, 1912, a daughter of Virgilio and Angelina Bertelli
Vella, she was educated in local schools.
Mrs. Shook had been employed by Crane & Co., Inc., as a quality control sorter
in the Government Mill, where she worked for twenty years, retiring in 1977.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Shook was still actively involved in volunteer
work, including the Retired Volunteer Senior Volunteer Program, the Pittsfield Boys and
Girls Club, and the Hillcrest Hospital Gift Shop. She was a member of the ITAM Lodge where she enjoyed bingo and the Golden
Senior Citizens. She also enjoyed cooking.
Her husband, Raymond F. Shook, Sr., whom she married October 31, 1933, died
in September 19, 1970.
Mrs. Shook is survived by her son, Richard G. Shook of Pittsfield, with whom she made her home; six grandchildren, Paul and Sharon Shook of West Stockbridge, Peter and Mary Shook of Pittsfield, Sue Shook and her husband, David, of Lenox; Brenda Weider of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Kimberly Foster and her husband, Dale, and Portland, Maine, and Gene Shook and his wife, Nancy of Portland, Maine; and eight great grandchildren; a brother, Harry Vella and his wife, Elizabeth of Pittsfield; and a sister-in-law, Viola Vella, of Great Barrington.
She was pre-deceased by two sons, Raymond Shook and Robert Shook; two
brothers, Andrew Vella, Reno Vella, and Joseph Vella; and a sister, Mary Norton.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for MILDRED MARY SHOOK, who died Saturday, March 7, will be Wednesday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Shook may be made to Retired Senior Volunteer Program in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
