Obituary for Michelina Arace

MICHELINA ARACE, 91, of 17 Brookside Drive, Pittsfield, went to be with the
Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2009.
She was born on January 3, 1918, in Nusco, Province of Avellino, Italy, a
daughter of the late Leonardo and Annunziata Natale Scrima of Montella, Province of
Avellino, Italy.
She married Michelangelo Arace on April 17, 1937, in Nusco, Italy, and moved
to Cairano, Province of Avellino, Italy, where she lived and raised her family until
coming to the United States on April 15, 1955. She and Michelangelo were married for
52 years until his death on June 8, 1989.
After arriving in the United States, she and her family settled in Pittsfield,
Massachusetts. In addition to caring for her family, she worked as a seamstress at the
former Pajama Factory and the Stratton Coat Factory.
Michelina believed deeply in the Lord and was a member of Christian Assembly
Church in Pittsfield where she attended for years.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and preparing wonderful
Italian meals for them. She was an impeccable keeper of the home, gardener, and
storyteller. She also enjoyed animals.
Michelina is survived by her son, Louis and his wife, Anna, of Pittsfield; her son,
Andrew, and his wife, Julia, of Pittsfield; and her son, James of Pittsfield; six grand-
children, Michael Arace, Esther Coppola, Dina Perkins, Paul Arace, Michelle Arace, and
Deborah Herrick; and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, David Leonardo Arace; her three
Brothers, Filippo, Ernesto, and Pietro of Montella, and her sister, Paolina, of Nusco.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for MICHELINA ARACE, who went to be with the Lord on
Sunday, January 11, 2009, will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in her memory may be made to Christian Assembly Church, 850 Williams
Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of
arrangements.
