Obituary for Michael B. Reed

Michael Barry Reed, 62, of 1949 East St. Pittsfield died Friday January 4, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 25, 1950 in Pittsfield a son of the late Daniel and Marguerite Mahoney Reed. He attended St. Charles Elementary School and was a 1968 graduate of St. Joseph's Central High School. Mr. Reed had been employed for the General Electric Company as a fork lift operator and stock keeper for twenty years and also served as a union steward. He had also worked at Schweitzer Paper Mill in Lee for several years. For ten years he was a independent contractor for the delivery of the Berkshire Eagle. In his younger years he enjoyed playing Slow Pitch Softball. He was a former member of the Elks Club and was a communicant of Saint Joseph's Church. He was a NY Giants Football Fan. Mike was a avid Boston Red Sox fan and season ticket holder until Ted Kennedy, Mike swears stole his playoff tickets in 1975. He enjoyed going to Foxwoods and O.T.B., his greatest joy in his life was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife the former Jane M. Burke whom he married April 17, 1971 at St. Charles Church. Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Shannon Reed McCarthy and her husband Stephen of Dalton, Ma. Two sons, Jason R. Reed and Scott M. Reed and his wife Melissa all of Pittsfield. Two Brothers, Daniel M. Reed and his wife Ann and Richard E. Reed all of Pittsfield. His three adored grandchildren, Jack and Cooper Reed and Madison McCarthy. A sister in law, Diann Reed of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas J. Reed in 2003.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will be private. Calling hours at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family suggests that memorials in his memory may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
