Obituary for Michael D'Avella

Michael N. D'Avella, 67, of 25 South Merriam Street, died after a long hard-fought Battle with cancer on August 9, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on November 11, 1948, the son of Francis D'Avella Sr. and Dorothy Riley, he was a 1966 graduate of Pittsfield High School. A Vietnam War Veteran, Michael enlisted with the United States Army on February 3, 1969, served ten and a half months overseas, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on December 6, 1971. Michael was an engineer employed by General Dynamics for the last eight years. Prior to that he worked for Mechanical Technologies in Albany for fourteen years and General Electric for eighteen years. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf and fishing. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan, and loved spending time with his dog, Reighly. Michael leaves his wife of 31 years, the former Vera E. Dias, whom he married October 12, 1984, his daughter; Erin L. Kahlon, her husband Nick and his children Shea, Kaia and Riley of Glens Falls, NY; his son; Matthew M. D'Avella of Pittsfield; his brothers, Donald D'Avella and his wife Debra of San Francisco, CA; Francis D'Avella Jr. and his wife Darlene of Pittsfield, MA; Thomas D'Avella and his wife Bonnie of Pittsfield; and John D'Avella and his wife Amy of Manchester, NH; his sisters, Kathleen Weidman of Russell, MA, and Colleen Douglass and her husband George of Land O' Lakes, FL, and many beloved nieces and nephews and in-laws. He was pre-deceased by his brother-in-law Les Weidman.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Michael N. D'Avella who died August 9th will be held Monday, August 15th, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at St. Marks Church celebrated by Rev. David E.Aufiero. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. A celebration of Michael's life will be held at the Skyline Country Club in Lanesborough following the burial from 3:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Michael's memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or Moments House in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
