Obituary for Matthew Gurdek

Matthew Gurdek, 62, of 89 Emerson Avenue, Pittsfield died at his home on Saturday, February 16, 2013 surrounded by his family and friends and his beloved canine friend Sam.
Born on December 31, 1950 in Srem, Poland and son of Kazimierz and Helena Witkowska Gurdek. He came to the United States in 1981. He attended schools in Poland and had served in the Polish Military. Mr.Gurdek was a carpenter in construction for many years. He enjoyed working with his hands and cooking and was very proud of his Polish heritage. Matthew was a man of strong character and his great sense of humor helped him survive his long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Maria O. Borucka-Gurdek. Two sons, Arthur Gurdek of Wallingford, CT. and Matthew Borucki-Gurdek of Pittsfield, Ma. A brother, Kazimierz, three sisters, Lucyna, Barbara and Ela all of Poland and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Mark Church, celebrated by the Rev. Tomasz Parzynski, parochial vicar. Burial will be in Poland at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorials in his memory may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of Dery Funeral Home 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. 01201. The family would like to acknowledge a special Thank You to Dr. DeLeo and his staff and Hospice Care in the Berkshires for all their loving care and support shown to Matthew and the family during this difficult time.
