Obituary for MaryEllen Wells Rawson

MaryEllen Wells Rawson, 85, of Dalton, MA, passed away September 13, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on November 23, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George and Ellen Monks Wells.
She was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1954 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School. She also graduated from the former Pittsfield Secretarial School in 1955.

MaryEllen married Charles Rawson on August 1, 1971 at Richmond Congregational Church. He predeceased her on May 9, 2015.

Mrs. Rawson was a secretary for 26 years at Prudential Insurance. She lastly worked for Data Flute CNC in Pittsfield for 15 years, retiring from there in 1998.

A communicant of St. Agnes Church, she had a love for animals and her pets. Traveling to places such as Cape Cod, Maine, the Grand Canyon, and Alaska with family and friends brought her great joy in life. For many years Mrs. Rawson was a member of the Sweet Adelines chorus traveling and competing with the group. Other activities that she enjoyed were participating in bowling leagues and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Cachat and husband Peter of Dalton; her son, Charles “Chris” Rawson and wife Christine of Dalton; Four grandchildren, Michael Cachat and wife Shena, Charlene Cassavant, Breann Weaver, Tyler Weaver and fiancée Hayley Gingras. Her brother, Thomas M. Wells of Pittsfield; Eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Austin, Aaron, Reilly, Aazarya, Zaamya, Zylaa, and Zynniaa. As well as one great-great-grandchild, Lincoln; Along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Anne E. Myrick.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by Rev. Christopher Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow at Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be held, Monday, September 19, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA 01226. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
