Obituary for Mary C. Valenti

Mary Constance Valenti, 91, of Newell Street in the Lakewood section of Pittsfield, died Christmas Day at Kimball Farms Extended Care Center in Lenox, MA. She was born in North Adams on August 17, 1930, daughter of Dominick and Maria Canale Papa. She attended North Adams schools and was a 1948 graduate of Drury High School. She then went to work at the General Electric Company in Pittsfield and there she met Fred. They were married on June 10, 1950 at St Anthony of Padua Church in North Adams and celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Mary enjoyed being a wife and loving mother to her three sons and keeping an immaculate home. She was always ready to serve visitors lunch! Either with freshly made meatballs or traditional cold cuts and Stella - D'Oro Cookies. She had a passion for fashion, always dressed to the nine's. She worked for many years at North Street clothing establishments, The Paris Shop, Beba and Brothership, The Berkshire Hills Shop, Kay's Coats and Steven Valenti's. She organized many fashion shows that were held at the former Crowne Plaza in Downtown Pittsfield.

Mary was a long time communicant of the former All Soul's Church in Pittsfield. She served as President of the Ladies Society and active in many church affairs, organizing polenta dinners, bazaars, and social events. When All Souls became a polling place, she worked the polls for many years. Mary's passion was singing and she spent a great deal of time singing in the choirs. After the closing of All Soul's, Mary attended St Agnes Church in Dalton where she sang in the church and folk choirs. She was also a member of the Sweet Adelines of Berkshire County.

Mary was a member and officer of the Italian American Club, where she organized many events. Because of her candlepin bowling skills, she was a respectable bocce player as well. When she found extra time, she enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends, knitting and taking long walks around the neighborhood.
Her husband, Frederico "Fred" Valenti, died on July 19, 2016. She is survived by her three sons; Steven (wife Carolyn) Valenti of Dalton, Gary F (wife Kathy) Valenti of Pittsfield and David R Valenti of Gilbert Arizona as well as three grandsons; Michael, Evan and Christopher Valenti. She was predeceased by nine siblings.
