Obituary for Mary M. Norton

MARY MILDRED NORTON, 89, of Berkshire Town Apartments, formerly of Fenn Street, Pittsfield, died peacefully on Thursday, March 5, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in the village of Berkshire, December 28, 1919, a daughter of Virgilio and
Angelina Bertelli Vella, she attended Pittsfield schools. Mrs. Norton had been employed as a seamstress by the former Berkshire Coat
Factory and the former Glix Brand Pajama Factory.
She was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where
she was a member of its Ladies Guild and volunteered her time.
She was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and volunteered at
Hillcrest Hospital. She was also a member of the ITAM Lodge where she worked the
bingo games. Her husband, Gerald R. Norton, died August 7, 1978.
Mrs. Norton is survived by a son, Gerald R. Norton, Jr., and his wife, Daryl
Hutton of Richmond; a daughter, Ann M. Norton of Pittsfield and her significant other,
Paul Proshan of Roslyn Heights, New York; a brother, Harry Vella and his wife,
Elizabeth of Pittsfield; a sister, Mildred Shook of Pittsfield; and two grandchildren,
Shenna Norton and Brent Norton and his wife, Amanda.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for MARY MILDRED NORTON, who died Thursday, March
5, will be Tuesday, March 10, at 8:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a
Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, celebrated by Rev.
Geoffrey J. Deeker, C.S.S., Pastor of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, from 4:00
p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of
Mrs. Norton may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires or to Elder Services of
Berkshire County in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
