Obituary for Mary H. Manship

On Friday, July 2, Mary finished her life's journey at Mount Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke, MA, where she had lived for the past five years. Previously, she resided in Dalton, MA, for fifty-five years. Mary began life on October 13, 1926 and spent her childhood in Lenox Dale, MA. She was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Helen (Brennan) Borden, her sister, Anna Borden, and her loving husband of twenty-eight years, Sidney Elliot "Slip" Manship. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, John and Christine (Eberhard) Manship of Oneonta, NY, and Paul and Laura Failla Manship of East Longmeadow, MA. She was a proud grandmother of four and a great-grandmother of four. Mary loved life, her family, and her friends, of whom she had acquired many. During WWII, Mary worked as a mail carrier at Pittsfield General Electric, and has held numerous secretarial positions since then. After her husband's death in 1979, Mary fulfilled a long held artist's dream and opened a ceramics shop, Creative Claythings, on Main St. in Dalton which she operated for a number of years. She later worked as a receptionist and secretary at Wahconah Regional High School. Mrs Manship was a communicant of St. Agnes Church where she served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. She was an avid bowler and played in leagues at Imperial Lanes. Mary's imprint on those fortunate to have known her has been one of color and flare. We are grateful for the gift of herself to us as we mourn our loss.
