Obituary for Mary Rita Lantz

Mary Rita Lantz, 91, of Pittsfield, died Friday, October 23, 2015, at Berkshire Place.
Born in Pittsfield on May 18, 1924, the daughter of Frederick C. and Katherine Thomasson Hogan, she was a 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School and attended
Berkshire Community College.
Mrs. Lantz had been employed by the Pittsfield Public Schools where she was among
the first groups paraprofessionals to be hired. She was assigned to the former Crane School and
then to Allendale School. She had previously worked for General Electric Company.
While at Crane School, Mrs. Lantz was a member of the Parent Teacher Association,
and while at Allendale, she was Den Mother for the Cub Scout Troop there.
She was active in the Berkshire Chapter of the American Red Cross for which she
received a citation as a baker for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Northampton and she volunteered for the Red Cross golf tournaments, as well. She was also a volunteer at Berkshire Medical Center Oncology Department and had volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital. She also enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren, as well as gardening, knitting, and cross country skiing.
Her husband, Richard C. Lantz, whom she married October 14, 1950, in St. Mary the
Morning Star Church in Pittsfield, died March 28, 2006.
Mrs. Lantz is survived by two sons, Frederick A. Lantz, and his wife, Ellen, of Pittsfield,
and Jeffrey A. Lantz, and his wife, MaryAnne, of Apple Valley, Minnesota; a brother, Frederick
B. Hogan and his wife, Olga, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; four great grandchildren, Ashley
Taylor and her husband, James, Amanda Charow and her husband, Scott, Jeffrey Lantz and his
wife, Monica, and Kelly Lantz; three great grandchildren, Bradley Charow, Teagan Charow,
and Jacob Lantz; and her two cats, Chester and Cleo, and her dear friend Ann Gravel.
She was pre-deceased by a great grandchild, Garbriel Lantz, in 2013.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Calling hours for Mary Rita Lantz will be held Thursday, October 29, from 5:00 to 7:00
p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal
Shelter in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
