Obituary for Mary G. Gallant
Mary G. Gallant, 92, died January 15, 2023 at Springside Nursing Home. The daughter of Florence Egan Granfield and John Canning Granfield, she attended local schools, graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1948. She was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, receiving a B.S. in Home Economics.
She worked for a year at Boston Consolidated Gas Company in the home service department. She taught Home Economics in the Pittsfield Public Schools for eighteen years, then worked at Pittsfield Cooperative Bank for eighteen years.
She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the YMCA.
She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer M. Gallant of Maine, and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Lara Gallant. As well as her brother, John Granfield of NH and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert Gallant, as well as a son, Michael Gallant, a granddaughter, Jessica Gallant, and two sisters, Gloria Bodine and Jane Palmer.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Western and Central MA and Springside Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
Mrs. Gallant’s body has been donated to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial service will be held, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Sacred Heart Church or to the Berkshire Athenaeum in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
