Obituary for Mary Shirley Caritey

Mary Shirley Caritey has been a resident of Hillcrest Commons since taking ill in 1999.
Born in Lee, MA on November 22, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Faye
Bristol Gaherty. She attended local schools there and was a 1941 graduate of Lee High
School. Employed as a nurses' aide for most of her working life, she was employed at
several area nursing facilities and later did private duty nursing. She was also employed at Berkshire Medical Center for 10 years, retiring in 1988. That same year, she and her late husband, Louis began wintering in Florida and then moved there in 1990.
Her husband, Louis A. Caritey, whom she married August 18, 1942 died October 28,
1997. She is survived by two sons, Michael J. Caritey and his wife Charlene, Daniel L.
Caritey and his wife Susan, two daughters, Julia Whitcomb and her husband Joel and
Roxine Caritey, all of Pittsfield. She leaves her eight grandchildren, Glen, Wendy, Beth, Jessica, Amy, Jeffrey, Brianne, Danny and five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Julia, Joseph,
Samuel and Sofia. A brother, Thomas Gaherty of Lenox and a sister, Carol Akyrod of
Lee. Her son, Constance A. Caritey died as a result of an auto accident in 1965.
Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mary Shirley Caritey of Pittsfield who died June 2, 2013 will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Peter Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Special thanks and gratitude go out to the Unit 2 Staff at Hillcrest Commons who many have become a part of our family and have taken wonderful care of our Mother for fourteen years.
