Obituary for Martin Saltarelli

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martin O. Saltarelli of Stuart, FL, formerly of Lenox, MA, who passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2022 after a short illness, surrounded by family.

Born in Pittsfield on April 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Olympio and Leah Rose (Hover) Saltarelli. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1952 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1956 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and then secured his Professional Engineer license. He joined Beloit Corporation in Dalton, MA in 1956 as a Controls Engineer. He advanced to Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Engineering and travelled frequently through Europe, Japan and India. In 1980 he became President of Beloit-Rauma in Campinas, Brazil where he was responsible for the start-up operation of a new manufacturing plant, installation of machine tools and hiring and training all department managers. Upon his return to the United States in 1984, he was named Vice President of International Marketing for the Pulp and Paper Systems Group in Beloit, Wisconsin. During his career he was awarded several patents for pulp and paper machinery and processes. At 49 years old he “retired”, but not for long. After enjoying some time off, he became CEO of Sinclair International, Holyoke, MA and also President of Trion Plastics, Jacksonville, FL.

Martin was involved in many community activities in Pittsfield including: Rotary Club, United Way (1977 Fund Drive Chairman), Director at Hillcrest Hospital and many others. He was a member of the Lakewood Sportsman Club, Pittsfield Country Club and Wahconah Country Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing (both summer and winter), snowmobiling, playing cards and family gatherings. After moving to Florida, he and his wife enjoyed golfing and other social activities at Mariner Sands Country Club and formed many lasting friendships.

Those surviving are his wife of 59-1/2 years, Lois (Nicholas), his five daughters: Lee Ann, Sue Ann, JoAnn, Mary Ann and Marcia; four grandchildren: Michael, Shaina, Allison and Tom; three great-grandchildren: Alex, Eric and Ryan, and his sister Leonora Zatorski. He was predeceased by his grandson, Seth.


Funeral Notice: The family will receive friends at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA on November 1, 2022 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
