Obituary for Martha E. Maynes

Mrs. Martha E. Maynes, 80, of 15 Taunton Place, Dalton, died Saturday at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield after a long illness. Born on October 12, 1927 in Pittsfield, MA she was the daughter of the late Alvah and Hazel Steele Adams. A lifelong resident of Dalton, she was educated in Dalton schools. A homemaker, she had worked at the former Pittsfield General Hospital and the former Mapleview Nursing Home in Washington in the laundry dept. during the 1960's and 1970's. She also did private duty home care and had worked at Crane & Company in Dalton during the 1940's. She married her husband, the late Paul T. Maynes at the First Congregational Church in Dalton in 1950. He died on March 12, 1976. Mrs. Maynes was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dalton. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and collecting cook books. She also enjoyed traveling to the South Coast of Maine where she enjoyed antique hunting. She leaves two sons; Alvah C. Maynes and his wife Mildred of Dalton and David B. Maynes and his wife Diane of Pittsfield. She also leaves her three grandchildren; Rebecca L. Maynes, Heather Blevins and Jessica Blevins and two great-grandchildren; Caleb Matthew Blevins and Aiden Alexander Russell and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Towne, late of Dalton.

FUUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Martha E. Maynes, 80, of Dalton who died March 29, 2008 will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton conducted by the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor of First Congregational Church of Dalton. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 6 PM at the Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 Main St. Dalton. Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Maynes may be made to the Dalton Ambulance Fund or to the Berkshire Humane Society both in care of the funeral home.
