Obituary for Marion Reardon Cavanaugh

Marion Reardon Cavanaugh, 88, of 293 High St. Dalton, MA died peacefully at Mt. Carmel Care Center, Lenox, MA on February 9, 2016. She was born in Pittsfield on April 16, 1927, daughter of the late William and Lillian Fox Stevens. Marion was a 1945 graduate of Pittsfield High School and worked in G.E. Plastics for years and later worked as a waitress for local restaurants; Robin Hood, Busy Bee and Johnny's. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and also made wedding cakes for many years. She was the mother of Jeff Reardon, Major League Baseball relief pitcher. She enjoyed many years traveling and following his career and was so proud to see him accomplish his dream of playing for the Red Sox and also being in two World Series Championships. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church where she belonged to the Rosary Society.
On May 11, 1946, she married John H. Reardon. They were married for 35 years and had six children together. John died on June 19, 1981. In October, 1986 Marion married Lawrence Cavanaugh. After 23 loving years together, Larry died on July 7, 2009.
She is survived by three sons; Rick Reardon and his wife Linda of Sarasota, FL, Jeff Reardon and his wife Phebe of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Jim Reardon and his wife Tammi of Dalton, MA. Three Daughters; Sandy Ramsey and her husband Billy of Villages, FL, Carol Vella and her husband Jerry of Dalton, MA, and Joanne Pelkey of Dalton, MA. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, Ron Ramsay, Wendy Dumas, Vicki Breitmaier, Mike Vella, Bob Pelkey, Todd Pelkey, Jody Eaton, Derek Reardon, Lisa Makowski, Jay Reardon, Kristi Reardon, Beth Langlois, Tyler Reardon, and Jarod Reardon. Marion was predeceased by her loving grandson, Shane Reardon who died February 21, 2004. She was also blessed with 11 great grandchildren. She leaves her sister-in-law Kathleen Face and her brother-in-law Harry Morey. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, William Stevens and Gordon Stevens. She was very close to her sister Barbara Manning. They did everything together through the years. In the most sadly beautiful storybook ending, Barbara passed away the same day as Marion so they are still together. Marion also leaves 4 stepchildren, Robert Cavanaugh and his wife Debbie, Dave Cavanaugh and his wife Pam, Donna Dumas and her husband Bill and Sharon Engwer and her husband Jerry and 12 step-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Marion Reardon Cavanaugh, 88, of Dalton who died February 9, 2016 will be held Monday at 10:15 AM from the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Agnes Church in Dalton celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will be private in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. Memorial donations in memory of Marion may be made to St. Agnes Church or to the Shane Reardon Memorial Fund both in care of the funeral home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226.
