Obituary for Marilyn Joyce Eigen

Marilyn Joyce Eigen, 91, formerly of North Adams, Ma, died February 4, 2021 at Springside Nursing Home in Pittsfield, where she had resided for the last 7 years.

Born in Forestville, NY on December 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lyle and Edna Town Ruttenbur.

She attended schools in New York State and was a 1951 graduate of Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY.

Mrs. Eigen was primarily a homemaker. At one time she was a substitute school teacher in North Adams. She also was a proofreader for the North Adams Transcript and she retired in the late 1980’s from Williams College, where she had worked in the alumni office.

She enjoyed Bowling at Mt. Greylock Bowling Alley, taught swimming at the Spruces, and took pleasure in reading, watching Jeopardy, playing cards, and doing the NY Times crossword puzzles in pen. She was also a fan of the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic.

Mrs. Eigen is survived by her sons, Francis Kristofferson of Boston, MA and Brent Cardillo and his wife Sarah of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Karen E. Daigle and husband Mark of Cheshire and Barby Cardillo of Cheshire, MA; two step-sons, Paul Eigen and Walter Eigen, both of North Adams, MA; a brother, Terry Ruttenbur of Victory Mills, NY; and a sister, Daphne Burke of Rockland, ME; six grandchildren, Jami Hall, Casey LaPerle, Greg LaPerle, Kevon Plouffe, Joanna Cardillo, and Stella Cardillo, and nine great-grandchildren.


She was predeceased by her daughter, Diane Cardillo, and was widowed by two husbands, Francis Cardillo and Paul Eigen.

The family would like to thank the staff of Springside Nursing Home and also HospiceCare in the Berkshires staff for their care and devotion to our mother
