Obituary for Marie Piekos Adamcek

Marie (Piekos) Adamcek, 88, died October 21, 2012, at the home of her daughter
and son-in-law, Carol and Mark Ellis, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Born in Cheshire, Massachusetts, Marie lived many years in Glastonbury and Wethersfield, Connecticut, before moving to Lancaster sixteen years ago.
Marie was born November 27, 1923, the fifth of Jan and Karolina Piekos' twelve
children. After graduating in 1941 from the former Adams High School, Marie left Cheshire and the family farm and moved to Hartford, Connecticut, to work for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. In the years following World War II, Marie worked in the insurance
industry and married John Adamcek, moving to Glastonbury where they raised their two
daughters, Pat and Carol. Marie later returned to Pratt & Whitney as an engineering aide
and retired in 1987 with 27 years of service.
Marie always made her home an inviting place for friends and family, tending to
her garden, baking, knitting, and creating lovely lacework. She also enjoyed traveling,
often with her sister, Vicki, or daughter, Pat. A frequent destination was California where Pat lives. Several years ago, Marie moved to Carol and Mark's home where she enjoyed watching their horses and goats from the patio. Marie especially cherished the
close relationship she had with her grandchildren, Jared, Dylan, and Kayley.
Marie was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Adams, Massachusetts, and St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Glastonbury, Connecticut.
Marie's family would like to acknowledge her wonderful hospice caregivers who,
along wth the loving care given by Carol, made her last months comfortable.
Marie is survived by two daughters, Patricia Adamcek of San Ramon, California,
and Carol (Adamcek) Ellis and her husband, Mark, of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Jared Ellis (Sarah) of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, Dylan Ellis of Washington, D.C.,
and Kayley Ellis of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Sophie Gwozdz of Cheshire,
Massachusetts, and Victoria Zabawa of Southampton, Massachusetts; one brother, Frank Piekos of Cheshire, Massachusetts, and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was predeceased by seven brothers, Walter (1956), Stanley (1957), John
(1991), Josef (2001), Kazimer (2005), Tadeusz (2005), and Henry (2007); one sister, Emilia Jajko (2010); and her former husband, John (1988).
