Obituary for Margaret Betit Perrault Fillio

Margaret Yvonne Betit Perrault Fiilio, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Mt. Greylock Nursing Home, where she had resided for 9 years. She was born in Pittsfield on January 23, 1936, the 8th child of Commodore and Alice (Gagne) Betit.

A lifelong city resident, Peggy, as she was affectionately known, was educated in Pittsfield Catholic schools, graduating from St. Joseph High School in 1953. She was employed at KNE Printing, and then for nearly 50 years served as the church secretary at First Church of Christ and later First Baptist Church, where her congenial personality and tireless dedication led to the formation of countless lifelong friendships.

Peggy married Carlyle E. Perrault in 1955, spending 29 wonderful years with him until his untimely death in 1984. She married her second husband Richard E. Fillio in 1985. Richard passed away in 2016.

A devoted Catholic, she was an active member of St. Theresa, Sacred Heart, and St. Mark parishes. A fan of anything to do with frogs, Peggy also enjoyed dancing, travel, the ocean, helping others and spending time as the loving matriarch with her ever growing family.

Peggy is survived by sons Tyrone (Kellie) Perrault of Hinsdale and Darryl (Tammy) Perrault of Pittsfield, as well as her daughter Lana (Richard) Murdock of Tarpon Springs, Florida. Her first child, Dane C. Perrault, passed away in infancy in 1959. She leaves 11 grandchildren including Todd (Alyssa) Perrault, Shane (Kristen) Perrault, Shannon (Mathew) Borden, Shelby (Kevin) Hitchko, Jessica (Robert) Perrault, Nicholas (Mindy) Perrault, Brandon Perrault, Carly (Dylan) Power, Alex (Caitlyn) Stevens, Andrew Stevens, and Marissa Stevens, and 15 great-grandchildren including Hadley, Madison, Noah, Shane, Brayden, Nolan, Maverick, Brinley, Sawyer, Katie, Anthony, Alana, Billy, Journey and Finn. Peggy also leaves her sister Cecile (Bobby Joe), stepbrother Joseph Gauthier, stepsister Mary Ward, her 6 stepchildren Patricia, Susan, Richard, Steven, Jeffrey and Thomas Fillio and their families, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

She was predeceased by her brothers Richard, William, Robert and James and her sisters Rita, Marie and Doris, and her stepmother Lelia.
