Obituary for Manuela Grace Supranowicz (Carmona)

Manuela Grace (Carmona) Supranowicz lived 92 years in Pittsfield and her family is grateful to have had her so long in their lives. Peacefully, she passed from this life on January 9, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center. Hers was an exuberant spirit, who loved visiting with everyone, meeting new people and especially being with family.

Manuela was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Leon Valentine Supranowicz (d. 1/31/2019). Her family of loved ones includes four children: daughter, Elaine Chapman (Eric) and their children, daughter Emily Hardy (Troy) and their children, Evan and Ryan, and son Elliott Chapman (Diana); daughter, Joan Williamson and her children, son Matthew and his children, Ethan and Claire, and daughter Lauren Cabral (Michael) and their daughters Joey and Maizie; daughter Lyn Doran (whose husband Jim passed away in 2018), and her son Nicholas; and son Paul Supranowicz (Vikki) and their sons, Leon, Scott, Shaun, and Joey (Kristin) and their children Logan and Ella. Many nieces and nephews are a part of her large family as well as sisters-in-law (Beverly J. Supranowicz, Edith Farr, Beverly A. Supranowicz and Joan Carmona). Known as Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma, Manuela loved her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and all family members.

Manuela was born on January 18, 1929 to Antonio (from Cordoba, Spain) and Mary Carmona. She was the 2nd of their 4 children. Manuela’s loving younger sister, Generosa Murray, lives in Pittsfield. The older sister, Mary Delmolino, and brother, Anthony Carmona, both deceased, were also from Pittsfield. Manuela was raised as a Roman Catholic and had been a member of Mt. Carmel Parish.

Manuela attended Pittsfield High School and Marcel Academy of Beauty Culture. She proudly owned Manuela’s Beauty Salon for over 45 years, styling the hair of many customers who believed she was the best in the area. At the age of 65, she ended her business and then worked for Joe Fabino at Joseph’s on the Mall for 20 years, retiring at age 86. Manuela especially enjoyed dancing, traveling, reading, knitting, flower arranging, playing cards with family, Spanish and flamenco music, classic movies and backyard barbecues and parties. She loved being with people, talking, sharing and learning about each one. Her family and friends will miss her happy spirit! Manuela embraced life, waking with a smile on her face and love in her heart!

The family is grateful to the medical staff at Berkshire Medical Center, who provided her with care most recently. Elder Care Services of Berkshire County has been especially kind in providing support for Manuela at home for several years, through grateful service coordination from Kate. Special appreciation also is given to neighbor Irene, a special friend and care provider for Manuela.

A celebration of life service will take place at a later date in the Spring. Burial will be private at the family’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, Manuela asked that you donate to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children, which was also her husband’s request at his passing, for their joint love of children. Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA is handling the arrangements.
