Obituary for M. Helen Slater

M. Helen Slater, of 75 Beverly Street, Dalton, MA died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox. Born on December 27, 1928 in Watervliet, NY she was a daughter of the late James and Mary Meagher Coughtry. A longtime Dalton, MA resident, she was educated in Watervliet, NY schools and graduated from Watervliet High School in 1945. She then went on to graduate from the secretarial and administrative assistant program at the Mildred Elley School in 1946. Mrs. Slater was employed as a secretary at General Electric Company in Pittsfield, MA for twenty-five years. She retired in 1992. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Dalton where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the DAR and a camp fire leader in Dalton. She enjoyed volunteering her time at St. Agnes School, sewing, baking, and arts & crafts. She also enjoyed the computer and shopping. She leaves three daughters; M. Donna Slater of Foxboro, MA, Kathie A. O'Neil of Dalton and Nancy G. Shields of West Springfield, MA. She also leaves her
son, James D. Slater and his wife Margaret of Dalton. A brother; William R. Coughtry and his wife Marjorie of Palm City, FL. Six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother; the late James D. Coughtry.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for M. Helen Slater, of Dalton who died October 20, 2015 will be held Friday at 9:30 AM from the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Agnes Church in Dalton celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be held Friday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the funeral home prior to the funeral. Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Slater may be made to the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226.
